What FixedFloat is

FixedFloat is an instant exchange offering fixed-rate and floating-rate swaps, including Bitcoin over Lightning. Its terms state that users do not have to register or provide personal data to make an exchange, and name the operator as FFGX Group LLC, organised under the laws of Georgia. The same terms allow the service to suspend an order where suspicious activity is detected, request clarification and carry out KYC and source-of-funds procedures, extend processing by up to two months, and refund only to the original sending address. The service was hacked for about $26 million in February 2024.

Hack or exploit

Reported exploit of about $26.1 million in bitcoin and ether

FixedFloat was reported in February 2024 to have lost about $26.1 million in bitcoin and ether in an exploit. According to a security firm's analysis, the attacker moved the funds through other no-KYC services, and the root cause was never publicly disclosed in detail. The service resumed operation afterwards. No evidence was found in the sources reviewed that customer swaps in progress were left unpaid as a result.
