About Ashigaru

Ashigaru is a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet for Android plus a desktop 'Terminal' application, developed by the Ashigaru Open Source Project. Its about page says the project formed after the Samourai Wallet developers were charged in the United States and development of that wallet stopped, and that its members were Samourai users with no relationship to the original team. Features listed on the site include Whirlpool coinjoins through the project's own coordinator, PayNym (BIP47) payment codes, Ricochet, coin control, batch spending and connection to a user's own Dojo node over Tor. The code is released under the GPLv3 and hosted on a Tor-only Gitea repository; binaries are downloaded with the Tor Browser. The privacy policy says the project never receives usage data from the apps and keeps no logs on its websites. No individuals or company are named.
